Bewakoofiyaan Review

On face-value, BEWAKOOFIYAAN may pass off as yet another love story in a middle class setup, with the [tyrannical] father of the girl throwing a wet blanket on their plans. While the subject matter is as old as the hills -- haven't we watched a concerned/over-protective parent opposing his kid's choice of spouse in dozens of films earlier? -- BEWAKOOFIYAAN also drapes a thorny issue that plagues the world: Recession. However, what could've been a serious take on relationships and economic decline is punctuated with several laugh-inducing moments by Nupur Asthana.

One expects BEWAKOOFIYAAN to be a joy-ride, since Nupur's big screen debut MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE was padded with intelligent humor, clever lines and charming moments. And Nupur and writer Habib Faisal make sure they give the cliché-ridden plot a new spin altogether.

Mohit [Ayushmann Khurrana], a marketing whiz kid, and Mayera [Sonam Kapoor], a financial brain, are a much-in-love couple. They work hard, they party harder. Their belief is simple: You can live on love and fresh air… But there's an obstacle: Mayera's wilful bureaucratic father V.K. Sehgal [Rishi Kapoor].

The obstinate man believes that only a rich man can bring Mayera happiness and a mid-level executive like Mohit simply isn't good enough. Who gets the last laugh when recession strikes and the lack of money tests love?

BEWAKOOFIYAAN brings back memories of Anubhav Sinha's AAPKO PEHLE BHI KAHIN DEKHA HAI and Rahul Dholakia's KEHTAA HAI DIL BAAR BAAR, besides FATHER OF THE BRIDE and MEET THE PARENTS, of course. Having said that, Nupur and Habib pepper the plot with some cleverly penned sequences, but stray episodes apart, the writing maintains a strong grip from commencement to conclusion [the run time -- less than 2 hours -- makes sure the film never overstays its welcome]. Also, the writer slips the after-effects of recession smartly in the proceedings, without deviating from the core issue, that of a love story.

There's a lot to like in BEWAKOOFIYAAN. The makers know well the flavour of humor they wish to peddle to the spectator -- witty and subtle -- shying away from the slapstick and buffoonery one has come to expect in Bollywood comedies. It won't be erroneous to state that BEWAKOOFIYAAN makes a genuine attempt to entertain beyond tested flavours and it succeeds in evoking genuine laughs at regular intervals. Also, Nupur and Habib invest heavily into the characters and the screenplay to keep the interest alive. Additionally, the film works for two more reasons: Sharp dialogue and spot-on performances by its protagonists.

However, there are hiccups too. The conclusion is foreseeable given the genre of the film, hence Habib should've ensured that the sequences leading to the climax were hatke completely. The soundtrack [Raghu Dixit] is plain ordinary and though it's not right to draw parallels, one misses a 'Paani Da Rang' kind of haunting melody from Ayushmann yet again [that song has become a yardstick, frankly]. Notwithstanding the blemishes, what needs to be appreciated is the chance YRF has been taking lately. While the premier production house is synonymous with biggies like JAB TAK HAI JAAN, EK THA TIGER and DHOOM: 3, they aren't shying away from making 'smaller films' with interesting concepts such as ISHAQZAADE, MERE DAD KI MARUTI, SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE and now, BEWAKOOFIYAAN.

Editing [Antara Lahiri] is crisp, while the DoP [Neha Parti Matiyani] paints a vivid portrait of the capital as well as Dubai.

The film relies completely on three central characters -- Rishi Kapoor, Ayushmann and Sonam -- and the performances are indeed commendable. Especially Rishi, a gifted actor, who's finally getting roles that do complete justice to his talent. Ayushmann is charming, confident and far from shaky in sequences with the veteran Kapoor. That's no mean achievement! Sonam has evolved tremendously as an actor of late. Films like RAANJHANAA, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG and now BEWAKOOFIYAAN only cement her status as a fine talent. Also, she goes all out this time around, flaunting the oomph factor quite abundantly. The supporting cast, in limited roles, deserve a special mention too, especially Gurpal Singh [as Gursharan] and Pratap Hada [as Immy].

On the whole, BEWAKOOFIYAAN springs a pleasant surprise. Watch this wonderful slice of life film for the super performances of Rishi, Ayushmann and Sonam, watertight writing, skilled direction and dollops of humor.

'Lone Survivor' Is Unsettling in the Best Ways Possible-Review

Lone Survivor is not a movie for the faint of heart. it is a film that beats you down and solely allows you to up for a couple of precious moments before the credits roll, however that emotional strangling is what helps build the film such a strong expertise.

Peter Berg's Lone Survivor tells the story of Operation Red Wings, primarily that specialize in a bunch of 4 Navy SEALs United Nations agency ar sent to the mountains of Afganistan to capture or kill a member of the Taleban. The set up goes wrong, and therefore the team has got to fight for his or her lives to flee the enemy-infested space. The film will a fabulous job of ratcheting up the strain before collapsing into its main action sequence, one that's as thrilling because it is unsettling. The long sequence brings forth reminiscences of the ill-famed 6 June 1944 gap of Saving personal Ryan, except this film's fire-fight stretches out the violence sort of a medieval torture device. The langourous scene is, at times, arduous to sit down through. every moment slips by in spiraling tension. It's without doubt uncomfortable, and therefore the film builds some extent to ne'er make the violence fun or attractive. The action is not consequence-free, and each bullet discharged carries weight, creating the scenes brutal and unrelenting as a result of it. The film takes on the aura of a horror motion-picture show that wishes you to feel each second that ticks by, and director Berg makes certain that a pressing despair starts to sadden the viewer even as it will on the troopers.

Mark Wahlberg is masses capable as Marcus Lutrell, a member of the SEAL unit that's sent on the mission. The supporting solid plays its elements commendable by credibly infusing a various set of personalities and values into the troopers, whereas still keeping them in tune with an equivalent military culture that governs abundant of their thoughts and actions. there is a nice scene wherever a tough call has got to be created, and therefore the viewer gets to visualize the various directions to that a number of the character's ethical compasses ar tuned. generally the correct factor will mean various things to totally different folks once the chance of death is on the table. the $64000 standout within the solid is mountain Foster, whose SO2 Matthew Alexson swirls with barely contained fury. he's in darkness intense and has electrical screen presence that basically starts to manifest once the bullets star flying and things become dire.

For all the nice can that the film builds up in its initial and second act, the ultimate third of the film hits some snags as history demands that the story take itself to a unique location, sacrificing a number of the strain that it's engineered up. within the last half-hour of the film, there ar some odd tonal selections that do not gel with the strain brimfull within the half. A comedic scene involving a barrier stands call at explicit.

The motion-picture show makes some extent to steer beyond any political judgment,  and it does not try and lay blame for the bungled mission on anybody head. And whereas the film ne'er externally states and opinion on the conflicts that America found itself involved in throughout now amount, the searing brutality represented within the motion-picture show highlight that nobody ought to be subjected to the pain that these men were two-faced with. created profusely clear is that the soldiers' disposition to drop everything and serve their country the simplest method they skills. Lone Survivor tries to honor the soldier, however not glorify war.

Lone Survivor is at its best once it causes you to feel the worst. It provides troopers their due reverence by showcasing verity terror of the tract, and whereas the film will begin to sag slightly in its third act, it's still quite well worth the expertise so as perceive the implications of war, and its toll on the folks within the trenches.

Parineeti not signed opposite Shah Rukh Khan

All speculations can well be put to rest. Parineeti Chopra would have to wait before she is seen on the big screen with Shah Rukh Khan. Though ever since the announcement of Fan, there were rumours of the two being paired opposite each other, unfortunately this has turned out to be, well, just plain rumours.

"In fact if you see an official communication from Yash Raj Films around the cast of Fan, there is no mention of a leading lady out there. Otherwise they never keep any suspense around their cast and crew. If Parineeti was in the film, her name would have been announced," informs our source.

Rumours started catching heat especially after it was announced that Fan would be directed by Maneesh Sharma. Since the filmmaker's last two films - Shuddh Desi Romance and Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl - have both featured Parineeti while producer Aditya Chopra too has shown great faith in the young woman's talent, it seemed like a given that Parineeti would now get her chance and graduate to the Shah Rukh starrer.

"It is not happening though. Parineeti is anyways working on three films - Hasee Toh Phasee, Daawat-E-Ishq and Kill Dil - which will keep her engaged till end of year. Let's see, perhaps she would get to do something with the superstar in 2015 or beyond," says a close associate.

When contacted, Parineeti too denied her involvement with Fan. "No, I am not in Fan. There is not even an iota of truth to the rumours making the rounds," she said.

Well, it can pretty much bite the dust now.

Results of Most Awaited Movies of 2014

Like the past, this year too, we, at Bollywood Hungama
conducted a poll to chart out what are likely to be the biggest blockbusters of
2014. The analysis was done in the form of a survey held in the month of December
2013 and conducted online amongst online surfers, spanning regions from UK,
USA, UAE and India, wherein the user had to select his/her 10 most anticipated
movies. To ensure complete transparency and accuracy, a two level
authentication check with cookie validation and IP mapping was put into place.

The results of the 'Most Awaited Movies of 2014' were compiled based on votes
from 138 countries - countries which constitute about 99% of revenue towards
Bollywood releases. Facebook users were also allowed to vote thereby increasing
the total number of votes polled and creating a larger sample size across
geographies. The results drew up some rather obvious and rather interesting
surprises. Read on to find out all about the Most Awaited Movies of 2014.

What to watch for in 2014

Aamir Khan

Shah Rukh Khan

Hrithik Roshan

Salman Khan

Ranbir Kapoor

Anushka Sharma

Star Quotient:

Much like the previous two years, Aamir Khan tops the list of celebrities whose
films are eagerly awaited. While 2 years back it was Talaash, last year
it was Dhoom 3 and this year yet again Aamir tops the charts with his
eagerly anticipated film P.K.

Last year SRK who featured at number 4 on the list has got a big boost (thanks
to the super success of Chennai Express) to claim the second spot with
his film Happy New Year.

A new entrant to the top three is Hrithik Roshan, who claims the third spot
with his film Bang Bang. Surprisingly, Hrithik also has a second film
voted in the Top 10, Shuddhi, which will be produced under the banner of
Dharma Productions.

Salman claims the next two slots in the Top 5 Most Awaited Films of 2014, with Jai
Ho
and Kick.

Ranbir Kapoor, who had two releases last year, namely Yeh Jawaani Hai
Deewani
and Besharam, faced extreme reactions from the audiences,
with one film becoming a hit while the other performing quite badly.
Interestingly, the Kapoor lad features twice in the Top 10 list of actors with Bombay
Velvet
and Jagga Jasoos.

Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor too are climbing up the ladder with Gunday
that is produced by Yash Raj Films.

2013 was Deepika Padukone's year, 2014 surprisingly has just one of her films, Happy
New Year
in the Top 10 list.

Katrina Kaif, on the other hand, has two films namely Bang Bang and Jagga
Jasoos
in top 10.

However, it is Anushka Sharma to watch out for, who has two big films, P.K. and
Bombay Velvet in the top 10 list.

Above all, the young Alia Bhatt seems to be climbing up the ladder rather
quickly with her next film Highway already making it to top 10.

Other Trends:

Deepika Padukone who had a stunning 2013 becoming the only actress to reach the
Rs. 600 crore mark has dropped to number five with her small budget film Finding
Fanny Fernandes
coming in at the bottom of the list with the least number
of votes.

Akshay Kumar who is one of the biggest superstars seems to be going through a
bit of lull with not a single film of his in top 10.

With films like Bang Bang, Jai Ho, Kick, Singham 2 and Gunday
toping the list, action films surely seem to be the flavour of this year.

Production Houses:

Among the production houses, Fox Star Studios India leads the list with two
films, Bang Bang and Bombay Velvet making it to the Top 10 list.

Others like UTV, Yash Raj Films, Reliance, Balaji, Dharma, Red Chillies, Eros
have one film each. The newly launched production house Picture Shuru
Productions comes in at tenth place with the Ranbir - Katrina starrer Jagga
Jasoos
.

Surprisingly, biggies like Viacom 18 and Excel Entertainment don't have a
single film of theirs featured in the Top 10.

Market Trends:

The Top 10 Movies remain almost the same across major markets like India, U.S.A
and U.K., however, the order of the ranking shows some slight changes. As
expected the Khans rule the roost in the UK with the Top 3 slots being taken by
Aamir's P.K, Salman's Kick and Shah Rukh's Happy New Year.
Interestingly, in the Top 5, Salman has two films while Ajay Devgn's Singham
2
comes in at the fifth place.

Ranbir Kapoor's Bombay Velvet seems to have dropped out of top 10 in the
UK coming in at number 14 on the list, while Prabhu Dheva's Action Jackson
starring Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha makes an entry at number 9.

Hrithik Roshan seems to be the flavor of the year post the massive success of Krrish
3
, with two of his films Bang Bang, and Shuddhi again making
it to the top 10 list. However, the new entrant to the list is the John Abraham
starrer Welcome Back which is a sequel to Welcome.
