Fall’s abundance of oversized coats has us
following the motto: the bigger the better. Whether you prefer leather,
wool or fur, as temperatures drop the oversized coat is there to cater
to your layers.

Though the dropped shoulder coat is nothing new, the Fall 2013
runways reminded us all how much we love the androgynous style. After
months of light sundresses, Carven’s oversized topcoat almost makes us
excited for the cooler temperatures ahead (or at least for the fashions
that come with the seasonal change). Also promoting the trend was
Mugler, whose pastel dropped shoulder coat was positively futuristic and
Acne, whose leather version of the style reinforced our love for the
laid-back silhouette.

Max Mara, Salvatore Ferragamo and Paul and Joe had us shivering with
excitement with their furry take on the oversized coat. Altuzarra,
who’se clearly on a winning streak with his recent Woolmark prize,
offered a luxurious black and white fox-fur coat adding elegance to the
oversized look. Fur accents appeared in subtle ways as well, lining
oversized coats at Belstaff and Giambattista Valli and decorating hoods
at Prabal Gurung and Nina Ricci.

Advocators for printed versions of the trend include Rochas, whose
floral topcoat is the perfect summer-to-fall transition piece. Michael
Kors chose a black and blue camo print fur for his fresh take on the
oversized style, while the ever quirky Kenzo went with a unique eye
print for a coat in their Fall 2013 collection. Marc Jacobs tackled two
trends at once, presenting a dreamy plaid oversized coat, which oozed
androgynous glamour.

Bottega Veneta and Prabal Gurung took on the voluminous trend in
their own way, adding belts to oversized styles with angular shoulders
for a waist-cinching effect. The figure defining coats offer a more
feminine option for the oversized style.
